My grandma was a quilter, too, and I'm restoring several of her (very worn) quilts. I find it hilarious that you speak of "deconstructing" uniforms (great fabric by the way! lovely quilt that you made of uniforms). I get all my fabric from the flea market so I have spent a fair amount of time ripping apart (deconstructing) mostly shirts and skirts...resulting in a button collection and a labels collection. Waste not, want not, right?
best, nadiaMulticoloredPieceshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06161913409399066123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3262053223562487874.post-64405888179577740092011-06-18T11:39:02.239-04:002011-06-18T11:39:02.239-04:00What a nice blog and great to do it together and t...What a nice blog and great to do it together and to shareMillie en Miles https://www.blogger.com/profile/01512433359636371169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3262053223562487874.post-3996874428658630782011-06-17T18:46:29.881-04:002011-06-17T18:46:29.881-04:00Sorry LaDonna, I've been out of pocket a bit a...Sorry LaDonna, I've been out of pocket a bit and missed something. Why are you deconstructing uniforms?

When I deconstruct, I use scissors and cut the seam out....really close so I don't waste. Toss the seam away and fold up the fabric pieces. As long as the pieces will be cut up for a quilt and not resewn to wear, it works fine. And there's less frustration for the deconstructor (me).Mary Marcottehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14569619947909529203noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3262053223562487874.post-84867447350779364762011-06-16T22:29:47.067-04:002011-06-16T22:29:47.067-04:00Hopefully a more fun project will come up soon.Hopefully a more fun project will come up soon.suemachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00274108215277727979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3262053223562487874.post-5116127327963752322011-06-16T20:23:35.542-04:002011-06-16T20:23:35.542-04:00It always feels good when you finally get somethin...It always feels good when you finally get something boring done.
Hugs
donnadonnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06110572810616964398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3262053223562487874.post-7955502897432641322011-06-16T19:15:34.571-04:002011-06-16T19:15:34.571-04:00Without reading the explanation, my first thought ...Without reading the explanation, my first thought on seeing the pic was that you'd been making some strange, abstract quilt art!

I too enjoy trawling through op' shops (Opportunity Shop - the Aussie equivelent of a thrift shop)- looking for interesting and quirky fabrics for craft projects.

Cheers from OZ - Kathy GKathy Ghttp://quiltednotions.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3262053223562487874.post-48861083619357009532011-06-16T08:06:08.207-04:002011-06-16T08:06:08.207-04:00Too funny! I like to buy wool garments at thrift shops to felt for wool projects...but first they must also be deconstructed before throwing in the washing machine. Ugh. I hate skirts with pleats...even though they are the ones with miles of gorgeous plaid wool!! I usually resort to it being a "TV" project...but it's summer and no good TV!!

DebDebhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15706950552891936276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3262053223562487874.post-76965940611350603432011-06-15T23:05:25.557-04:002011-06-15T23:05:25.557-04:00That's hilarious!
