Saturday, I didn't do any sewing. My husband and I spent the day together and went out for supper to celebrate his last day at the office! I meant to take my camera but forgot. I had a grilled portobello mushroom sandwich with sautéed spinach, cucumber and a roasted red pepper mayo on toasted sourdough and huge fries. The sandwich, though messy (juices running all over my hands!), was absolutely delicious! Tony had blackened fish tacos on corn tortillas with shredded cabbage, onions and cilantro topped with a green chile cream sauce and a nopalito salad. His was delicious too! And not messy because the only way to eat this fish taco is with a fork! The nopalito salad was very good, crunchy, a little vinegary, extremely addictive! Next time we go, though, I think we'll share a meal! There was so much food! But we each nearly cleaned our plates! We dined outside on the picnic tables under the shade of the trees. For once, it was a beautiful, not too hot day here in South Texas!
Sunday afternoon I did the stitch-in-the-ditch sewing of the courthouse blocks and started on the outlining of the trees. Finished that today (Monday) and started the free motion part of the quilt.
I gathered all kinds of things for marking my circles: a film canister, (really need to get that developed! I found it in a drawer; who knows how old it is!), a prescription bottle cap, a votive candle holder (I use both ends!), a lid of something I don't remember what, and a brie cheese container! Got a good start on the free motion; this is the easy part!

Looking forward to seeing the finished quilt! Love your use of tools! I don't think I'll ever be to the point of using stripes on the back. I'm wonky without trying.
ReplyDeleteIt's almost done, that's a good feeling for you! I also have an issue with stripes. I have a quilt waiting to be quilted because of the printed backing and how to keep it straight. I might just send it to a longarmer before I stress over it too much.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the completed quilt. Sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, LaDonna, but I know you'll do fine. I'm just learning how to free motion quilt and I've been practicing and practicing. I'm thinking it's time to just jump right in and try something easy. Love your circle tools!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your finished quilt!

You have me curious how you use your tools when doing free motion quilting. Maybe expand on that sometime? I guess my free motion quilting is so primitive...mostly squiggles...that it had not occurred to me to use outlines of objects. Tell me more!!

You'll do great on the quilting. Love the quilt, it will look great at Christmas and into January.
ReplyDeleteYour making me hungry! Wish I could find a good fish taco in my neighborhood. Thanks for the closeup of your quilting - great job!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about the stripe backing. I really to try to avoid them whenever possible. I bet the quilt is looking fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThe food sounds good. We are in St. Louis this week working on our house. So much to do and so little time. Sounds like you are making progress on the quilt.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! And congratulations on getting the stripes right on the back! Yikes! Stripes would be hard!
ReplyDeletelooking forward to seeing the finished quilt. Looks lovely so far!
