Today has been one of those days in my sewing room. I've got a lot of things weighing heavily on my mind and thought, I'll just go ahead and make my block for Theresa's project over at Confessions of a Craftaholic. Sewing always helps, right? I found the Scottie Dog pattern by Sindy Rodenmayer online. Love this Scottie Dog block, well, I just love Scottie dogs! All was going good, got my fabric, ironed on my fusible, started cutting him out, when I realized two things. First, I forgot to reverse him. That's ok, it's just one block; I can live with him facing left. Second, as I'm cutting out my fabric, I see that I placed the pattern so that the plaid is straight when I meant to place it on the bias. Drats. Ok,...not happy, but I can live with that too. I finished cutting him out, place him on the background, being so careful to make sure I get him on there straight. Iron him down, looking good. Do all my blanket stitch around, flip the block over to check out my stitching, and then see that I have put the Scottie dog on the wrong side of the fabric! Are you kidding me?! How did I not notice that?! Several things went through my mind which I cannot put here. What is it I need? Oh, yeah, a deep cleansing breath to calm down. Tell myself I am not doing this block over, it's ok, it still looks fine, you've used the wrong side of fabric on purpose for other projects, it's ok. By now, I'm afraid to square up the block. Thought maybe I shouldn't cut today because of all the things that have gone wrong and I seemed to have misplaced my rotary cutter,...you know, like it's a sign. But I found it. Took another breath, and very carefully, squared the block, and I didn't mess up! Here he is:
He'll be on his way to Theresa soon! I think I'm going to go read a book.

Tis a noble looking beastie. Besides, everybody faces the to the right and everyone does the pattern on point. Go against the flow.
ReplyDeleteSome days we should just go back to bed and start over, eh? I think he looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteA dapper gent!
ReplyDeleteI love your Scottie Dog. I need to make one. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteHe's awesome!! Don't do it over. Looks terrific. I love the plaid straight up like this, and the backside of that fabric is looking very good. I've done that soooo often with white-on-white!! (But I would have been right with you - not cutting until another day!)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good plan. Some days are just like that. Hope your dh had a great father's day.
ReplyDeleteSound like someone needs some chocolate! Hang in there - scottie looks gorgeous and nothing lasts forever -things will look up soon I am sure of it!
ReplyDeleteMuy bello blog

Hi LaDonna
ReplyDeleteLooks just grand to me. I think you have a dose of what I call Wallpapering Syndrome. Have you ever been to someones house when they have just finished wallpapering? You look and say "Wow that looks fantastic!" Then they set about to show you every bubble, mismatch and crease. Don't beat you self up!
Cheers

I like your Scottie...and his red plaid is great!! Maybe HE was telling you HE didn't want to be on the bias...and that HE like the wrong side of the fabric better!!

hello Ladonna
ReplyDeletetrop mignon ton scottie !!!!!!
bisous de Régina
I so dislike days like that - we all have them. My sister says "never ask what else can possibly go wrong" because inevitably something will. I think he looks quite handsome just as he is!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a normal day of sewing for me. He is really, really cute!
ReplyDeleteI have days like that.
ReplyDeleteStill, he is so cute :D
He turned out so cute!! (We used to have a Scottie named McIntosh! Strong little dogs. He could pull me over when I took him for a walk!)
ReplyDeleteIt does seem that there are days when our brains just won't cooperate with our intentions. You pulled it off, though.
He is adorable! Stubborn little Scottie wanted it all his way, eh?
ReplyDeleteNice job.
Deborah
I've had days like you described. I have to put down the sewing and do something else. If I don't it just gets worse. I think he turned out just fine in spite of everything.

My mistakes don't usually look that good! Your Scottie looks great. Hope you found a good book.
ReplyDeleteWell, he just looks too cute! I always say that it wouldn't truly be a Theresa work of art if it didn't have at least one flaw in it. Embrace the flaw!
ReplyDeleteI've just had an idea for my square today! I think that I am going to do a mixture of tatting and fusing. Should be interesting...
Oh, it sounds like you had a day! I like your little Scotty-he looks quite chipper ;-)
ReplyDeleteLaDonna.....I actually prefer the backside of a white-on-white fabrics.....the front side often looks gluey, and it can turn yellowy too. The backside is a soft shadow of the print....pretty! This little scottie dog is perfect in every way! Love it!
ReplyDeleteHe looks very nice! Some days are like that and NOTHING you try to do turns out like you wanted. It will be better tomorrow. LOL
ReplyDeleteabout mistakes - my grandmother was fond of saying that a smart woman won't say anything about them and a dumb woman won't know the difference (i think she was referring to the person who made the mistake...) so, knowing that you are a smart woman, mums the word! heeheehee. just say 'i meant to make it that way' if anyone asks! and besides, he looks great!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha! Sorry but I literally laughed out loud reading your post! Of course, I'm truly sorry you're so distracted (hopefully by nothing truly terrible!) but in the end, I think it obviously worked in your favor ~ it looks super cute!
ReplyDeleteHope by now you're well on your way to enjoying your book:)

Thanks for writing that post! I just finished a block for my first ever block swap, and I had to make 4 blocks to get one that was worthy of sending to someone else, and it's still not perfect. Your block still looks super cute!
ReplyDeleteLaDonna, hope things are looking up for you by now. The Scottie is adorable. Thanks for the info on where to find him.
ReplyDeleteIf the book doesn't work for you, turn on an old movie...really old black and white movies are just the ticket for unwinding and forgetting your worries for a few minutes.
You Scottie dog is so cute. Thank you so much for sharing him. I agree I love the old movies hope you are feeling better.
